Distance:
Buena Vista Park covers 36 acres with many tree covered trails and walkways. It would be possible to take either a short stroll or make a longer walk by looping around, or get a good cardio workout by going up and down the many stairs and slopes.
Considerations:
• If going by car, read street parking signs carefully to avoid getting a ticket.
• Though I see restrooms noted as a park amenity on one information site, I was not able to find them on our visit.
• There is a dog run space in Buena Vista Park. Great for dog walkers, but might require a little calming for dog-skittish family members if dogs are off leash.
• Close to Haight Street, which is a fun place to amble before or after a park walk, but sometimes also means people use the park as an outdoor home space.
• The park features tennis courts and a playground site.
The trail:
Buena Vista Park is 36 acres of greenery, live oak, and hilly trails that offer great views of San Francisco in several directions.
There is a playground, tennis courts, a special dog play area, and many trails to walk. On our visit, we noticed numerous small wooden side stairways, some with quite a bit of grass grown over, that looked like they would make for a fun adventure.
We took the main paved walkways, some lined with stone walls, and enjoyed the pretty stone steps that lead up to the top vista area.
The views of the city are stunning in several directions. This is a fairly centrally located park, and offers a surprising amount of greenery, including lovely oak trees, to walk through.
Buena Vista Park is San Francisco’s oldest park, known as Hill Park in 1867 and named Buena Vista Park from 1894.
Buena Vista Park is located near Haight Street with its lively collection of shops, restaurants and other businesses to check out. Being in a big city does not mean greenery and wildlife are out of reach!
