Highgate Cemetery Walk, London
Walk contributed by: Alec Shigeta
Walk/trail: Highgate Cemetery, London, with options for West and East side walks
Location: Swain’s Lain, Highgate Cemetery, London, UK
Walk distance: For those walking from the Archway Tube Station, it is 1 mile via the route we chose of Highgate Hill, Magdala Ave., Dartmouth Park Hill, Raydon Street, Chester Road, and up the hill to the cemetery entrance via Swain’s Lane. Visitors can choose how much distance they wish to walk in the West and East sides of Highgate Cemetery.
Highlights: Highgate Cemetery is known for having famous people such as Karl Marx buried on the East side, which is interesting to walk through, but the West side, though famous people are also buried there, is where people go to soak up the iconic cemetery atmosphere which has appeared in numerous horror films. First time visitors are encouraged to take the tour, especially for the West side, but it is quite enjoyable to walk without being on a tour.
